Field tools
Built for the vehicle, not the office
Field tools have one hard requirement: they have to work when there is no signal, on whatever device is actually in the ute. Everything here is a single HTML file that runs offline in a browser, reads and writes CSV, and does not care what it is installed on.
Cut sheet maker
Builds sampling cut sheets from downhole intervals, ready to print or carry on a tablet.
pXRF tool
Reads Vanta exports, composites to interval, handles repeats and standards, and rates every reading by its error: a periodic table coloured by confidence and a CSV with a Good, Fair or Low band beside each element.
Open the pXRF tool Save for offline use
Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you load is uploaded or saved anywhere, and the offline copy works the same with no connection.
Downhole survey QA
Flags the dip and azimuth jumps that quietly bend a hole into the wrong place before anyone notices.
Mag sus visualiser
Plots magnetic susceptibility against depth so a reading that does not belong is obvious immediately.
Prestart safety app
Daily prestart checks, captured on the device, exported as a record rather than a photo of a clipboard.
QGIS plugin suite
Map production and data handling tools packaged as a plugin. See MetaGeo Tools below.
QGIS plugin
MetaGeo Tools
Four tools for the exploration desk, in one plugin. Map Maker builds print ready layouts from a template with the MGA zone worked out from the view. Soil Grid designs a sampling programme on an absolute lattice so infill nests. Make COG and DEM to geoh5 Surface sit in the Processing Toolbox, so nobody has to open the OSGeo shell to compress imagery or get a DEM into Geoscience ANALYST. Update Logo swaps the branding everywhere at once.
Install from the MetaGeo repository
Add it once and QGIS tells you when there is an update.
- QGIS, Plugins, Manage and Install Plugins.
- Settings tab, Add under Plugin repositories.
- Name
MetaGeo, URL below, OK. - All tab, search
MetaGeo Tools, Install.

Or install from ZIP
Download the plugin and use Install from ZIP in Plugin Manager. You will not get update notices this way.
QGIS 3.28 or later. Tested on 3.44 LTR. No external Python packages, no network needed after install.
Map Maker
GDA2020 or GDA94, MGA zone chosen from the view. A0 to A4 in both orientations plus a presentation layout. Best fit or a fixed scale. Opens in Layout Designer ready to export.
Soil Grid
Lines, stations and SiteIDs over a prospect, snapped to an absolute lattice so a later infill nests inside the broad grid. Optional offset staggers every second line. Writes a QField ready GeoPackage.
Make COG
Cloud Optimised GeoTIFF from any raster. You choose PICTURE (lossy, for imagery) or DATA (lossless, for anything you will measure) and it will not run until you have. Reprojects lat long inputs to MGA on request.
DEM to geoh5 Surface
Turns a projected DEM into a Geoscience ANALYST surface with elevation attached. Drag the geoh5 into the Viewer and drape imagery over it. Needs geoh5py in the QGIS Python. In the OSGeo4W Shell, then restart QGIS (the pins matter, a plain install breaks QGIS):
python -m pip install --force-reinstall "numpy<2" "h5py==3.10.0" "geoh5py==0.12.2"
Update Logo
Pick a PNG, JPG or SVG once. Every template uses it from then on. Ships with the MetaGeo mark as the placeholder.
Found a problem or want a template added? Get in touch. Version history is in the README inside the plugin.
Want to see one working? The drillhole viewer on each Core Shack deposit page is the same idea. No libraries, no network calls after load, and it runs on a phone.
