What I do
MetaGeo is a one-person spatial data and GIS consultancy run by Adam Diaz out of Perth. The work is mostly exploration geology data infrastructure: making sure the data an exploration team collects is still usable in five years, on a different machine, by someone who was not there.
Exploration data infrastructure
PostgreSQL and PostGIS builds, logging schemas, coordinate and datum repair, and migrations off shared drives into something that holds up under audit.
Field tools
Offline-first, single-file HTML tools that run on whatever device is in the vehicle. Cut sheets, XRF compositing, downhole survey QA, mag sus visualisation, pre-start checks.
QGIS and spatial systems
Project setup, symbol libraries, plugin development, and map production that survives being opened on somebody else's machine.
Data audits and cataloguing
Working out what you actually have, what is duplicated, what is wrong, and what it would take to fix it.
How it usually starts
Almost always the same way: someone opens a project and the layers are grey, or a collar plots in the wrong hemisphere, or nobody can say which of four spreadsheets is current. The immediate job is to fix that. The actual job is to make sure it stops happening.
That means naming conventions people will follow, a database that enforces what the spreadsheet only suggested, coordinate handling that survives being passed between systems, and documentation short enough that it gets read.
